Encountering Encounters

Credit: Our good friends at Backbone pointed us toward this gem of a show. Encounters: Experiences in the North is 29 minutes of enthusiastic nature geek-out. Now I love those PBS nature specials as much as the next introverted kid without cable TV, but even with all those pretty pictures, there’s nothing like the sound of a polar bear growl, or a peregrine falcon’s screech, or the crack of a melting glacier to instantly transport me to the great white north. But the other thing that makes Encounters really cool is Richard Nelson’s incredibly infectious enthusiasm as he narrates the show live-to-tape. No staid voice-overs. The dude is in the thick of it, excited to be outdoors. It’s really fun stuff.

I just added a bunch of episodes in the mix, but if you absolutely need to listen to them now, check out the Encounters website, or sign up for PRX and listen, give a rating, or write a review.
